2007 Honors of the Association:

Gretchen Probst, CCC-A

SWPSHA is very pleased to honor Gretchen Probst as the 2007 Honors of the Association recipient.  Gretchen received her BA and MAT from Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana.  In 1968, she was the first audiologist hired to fill the newly created position of Clinical Audiologist in the Communication Department at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Gretchen was instrumental in developing the clinical program at the hospital.  In addition, she helped develop the first all pediatric audiology clinical placement program for students from a number of universities across the country. 

Gretchen currently works as an audiologist at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, specializing in the behavioral and electrophysiologic audiological assessment of the pediatric patient.  In addition to her clinical work, Gretchen is a member of the advisory board for the Program in Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students at the University of Pittsburgh.  She is a guest lecturer in many areas of auditory development and audiologic evaluation of the pediatric patient for many local hospitals and universities.  Gretchen has mad multiple presentations at local and national conferences.  She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the Educational Audiology Association.  Gretchen served on SWPSHA as CEU coordinator for years.  SWPSHA is truly pleased to honor Gretchen for her continued outstanding contributions in the local speech, language, and hearing community.

Presentation--Kathy Fitch, CCC-A

This presentation will provide learners with a brief overview of Auditory Processing Disorders in pediatrics.  The process that is used to identify this disorder will be reviewed.  Examples of tests, criteria, and profiles will be examined.  Recommendations for speech language pathologists in the school settings will be provided.  A collaborative model for working with these children in the schools will be reviewed.

Kathy is the primary clinical audiologist at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Kathy received her BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University and her MA in Audiology from Ohio State University.  She completed her CFY at Geisinger Medical Center in 1983.  Kathy worked at Mercy Hospital before she began at Children’s Hospital.  She has been with Children’s Hospital for 10 years and collaborates with the speech language pathologist to complete Auditory Processing Testing for the pediatric population.
